Organic Forms and the Natural World

In the fast-paced world we live in, there is an increasing desire to bring the tranquility and beauty of the natural world into our living spaces. One of the prevailing interior design trends that has gained immense popularity in recent years is the incorporation of organic forms and elements inspired by nature.

This design approach not only connects us with the environment but also fosters a sense of calm and well-being within our homes. At this year’s fair different designers explored the transformative power of organic forms and how they can elevate the aesthetics of your living spaces.

Elizabeth Leriche presented her “Nouveaux Mondes” (New Worlds) exhibition as part of the Tech Eden theme. As a trend researcher and art director she designed an immersive journey exploring the themes of nature and sustainability.

The exhibition showcased different spaces: a forest, the seabed and a desert as three natural environments created by objects made with eco-sustainable materials.

The organic inspiration could also be seen in Jasmine Boutant’s leaf shaped lightshade (top right).

Garden Glory (top right) brought to the fair a more aesthetic centered suggestion. The brand creates luxury design garden appliances in cute colors and forms because the garden does not have to the a boring space. Outdoor Living Trends for 2024 show that the exterior as become a premium space.

The Sensory Experience

In the pursuit of creating truly memorable and immersive living spaces, contemporary interior design is increasingly focused on engaging the senses. Beyond mere aesthetics, designers are now delving into the realms of touch, scent, sound, and even taste to craft environments that offer a rich multisensory experience.

Scent has a powerful impact on our emotions and memories. Designers are recognizing the potential of aromatherapy in creating atmospheres that resonate with inhabitants. By carefully selecting scents that align with the desired mood of a room, designers can enhance the overall experience and leave a lasting olfactory impression.

One of the key elements in creating a multisensory experience is also the incorporation of diverse textures and materials. Designers are increasingly experimenting with a variety of materials to stimulate the tactile senses, inviting inhabitants to interact physically with their living spaces. Incorporating elements like textured wallpapers, woven fabrics, and natural fibers adds depth and dimension to a room, making it a delight for the fingertips.

The strategic use of color, natural light, and visually stimulating patterns can also create an atmosphere that not only looks beautiful but also evokes specific emotions and feelings.

Mathieu Lehanneur (top right) checked all the boxes for this trend with his exhibition. Outonomy was the name of the installation at this year’s Maison&Objet fair, which named him Designer of the Year 2024.

New Materials

As the world of interior design continues to evolve, a wave of innovation is reshaping the way we approach decor and functionality within our living spaces. Among the most exciting trends gaining prominence are the utilization of new materials, advancements in 3D printing technology, and the adoption of circular design principles.

The traditional approach to interior design has often centered around familiar materials like wood, metal, and fabric. However, a surge of creativity has led to the exploration and integration of unconventional materials.
